The Threat of the Asian Hornet to Beekeeping in Catalonia

The beekeeper Samuel Ramal, 47 years old, has been dealing with arm pain caused by tennis elbow, but not from playing tennis, rather from the invasion of the Asian hornet, known as velutina. This invasive species has severely threatened his honey production in Polinyà, Barcelona. Despite his efforts to protect his 50 hives, the situation has become critical, as thousands of hornets surround his hives, waiting to capture the honey bees.
