Beekeeping in Spain Declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage

The Government of Spain has initiated the procedures to declare beekeeping in Spain as Intangible Cultural Heritage. This distinction would allow for a special level of protection for all beekeeping practices in the country. It was a long-standing demand from the Spanish beekeeping sector, which, in 2022, gathered more than 110,000 signatures to promote this declaration. The initiative, led by Valencian beekeeper Enrique Simó, has progressed with the recent publication of a resolution from the Ministry of Culture that begins the declaration process.
