Beekeeping in Gaza: Challenges and Hopes

Despite the recurring dangers on the eastern borders of the densely populated coastal strip, the border agricultural lands provide an ideal environment for beekeeping. Beekeeper Maisara Khdeir inspects the queen bee in her apiary in a field near the troubled Gaza Strip borders. Khdeir says, "The bees die from the gases, rockets, and dust caused by wars... which has resulted in the destruction of four apiaries." Before World Bee Day, Khdeir visited her beehive farm, located a few hundred meters from the border between Gaza and Israel.
