Equipment for royal jelly falls into three groups: what happens in the hive, what happens at harvest, and what happens to the product afterwards.

In the hive

• Cell bars and cups: Carry the larvae
• Rearing frame
• Queen excluder: For working partly queenright
• Feeder: Continuous feeding is necessary with this product

At harvest

• A strong, cool light source
• Forceps to remove the larva
• Suction device or spatula to lift the jelly
• A clean, washable work surface

A suction device works faster and touches the product less; a spatula is cheaper but slower.

After harvest

• Dark, airtight glass jars in small sizes
• Refrigeration or freezer
• Fine scales
• Labels with harvest date

Small jars are not a detail: repeated opening exposes the product to air each time.

Materials

Prolonged contact with metal is avoided. Glass, wood and food-grade plastic are suitable.

The cold chain is the equipment

With this product refrigeration is not an accessory but the core. It begins at the moment of harvest, not on arriving home.

A cool box at the apiary is therefore as necessary as the spatula.

Hygiene

• Wash everything after use and dry completely
• Leave no detergent residue
• No chemicals or strong smells in the workspace
• When in doubt about hygiene, do not use it

The question of scale

For small quantities simple equipment suffices. Commercial production requires continuous cycles, many bars and a reliable cold chain — and above all a buyer identified in advance.
